A day after Mumbai Terror Threat messages claiming that the city would be blown up using human bombs and 400 kg of RDX, the Mumbai Police Crime Branch has arrested 50-year-old Ashwinikumar Sureshkumar Supra from Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The accused will be produced before a Mumbai court on Saturday, September 6, 2025.

Hoax Threats with Mischief Intent
According to police officials, prima facie, the threats appear to be hoax messages aimed at creating nuisance and panic. The accused had used multiple mobile numbers to send the threats. Investigators managed to trace him to Noida with the help of Gautam Buddha Nagar Police. The phones used for the crime have also been seized.
A senior police officer told The Hindu:
βWe take each threat seriously. During Ganesh Chaturthi, there is added alertness. The accused was arrested in Noida and further investigation is ongoing.β
Messages Sent on WhatsApp Helpline
The threats were sent to the Mumbai Traffic Police WhatsApp helpline on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 2 p.m.. The messages used abusive language against the police and falsely claimed that Mumbai would be attacked with human bombs and explosives.
The Traffic Police immediately handed over the case to the Mumbai Crime Branch. A team led by DCP Raj Tilak Roshan, under the supervision of Additional CP Shailesh Balkawade and Joint Commissioner Lakhmi Gautam, traced the accused to Noida.
Security Tightened for Ganesh Visarjan

With Ananta Chaturthi and Ganesh Visarjan scheduled for September 6, 2025, Mumbai Police have intensified security across the city. Over 6,500 community Ganpatis and 1.5 lakh household idols will be immersed on Saturday.
This year, the police are using Artificial Intelligence, drones, CCTV cameras, and public address systems to monitor crowds and ensure safety. Deployment includes:
- 10 Additional Commissioners
- 40 DCP-rank officers
- 3,000 inspectors
- 15,000 constables
- 14 companies of SRPF and 4 companies of CAPF
- Riot Control Police and Quick Response Teams
Women police officers, both in uniform and plain clothes, will be stationed at immersion sites to ensure womenβs safety. Citizens have been urged not to spread rumors and to dial 112 Police Control Room for any emergency.
Police Appeal to Citizens
The Mumbai Police have appealed to citizens to remain calm and not fall for rumors during the festive season. Prohibitory orders have also been issued against drone use in restricted zones and photography of immersed idols for social media circulation.
